La première du spectacle a eu lieu au festival Sansusī 2022 dans le vieux cimetière de Vilkupes (LV).
La performance s’inspire principalement du projet photographique “God Nature Toil” de la photographe lettone Vika Eksta.
Ask the Bread raconte l’histoire la plus insignifiante de la femme la plus la plus insignifiante, dans le village le plus insignifiant.
La question question se pose alors : pourquoi la raconter ? Parce que dans cette insignifiance, il y a l’empreinte de l’urbanisation et la légende d’un pays.
Urbanisation qui a déplacé des populations vers le centre et a oublié sa périphérie, transformant l’organisation de tout un peuple. Dans cette histoire insignifiante vivent des traditions bientôt oubliées, vit un passé qui a vu et ressenti l’impact de la fin d’une ère – l’ère soviétique – qui est encore aujourd’hui un passé contesté entre glorification et traumatismes.

The performance takes its primary inspiration from the photo project “God Nature Toil” by Latvian photographer Vika Eksta.
Ask the Bread is telling the most insignificant story, about the most insignificant woman, in the most insignificant village.
The question may raise; why tell it? Because in this insignificance, lays the imprint of urbanization and a picture of a country which has moved to the center and forgotten its periphery. In this insignificant story, lives traditions soon to be forgotten, lives a past that has seen and felt the impact of the future, a past glorified and condemned, a future feared with the belief for better.
